Berlioz Trip AR is an interactive acoustic experience that invites you to explore Hector Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique and to physically wander through a symphony orchestra. Thanks to a new technology of sound spatialization, the user moves and shifts the perception he has of each instrument to fully immerse himself in the music. Equipped with a tablet and simple headphones, he discovers all the intentions and emotions that the composer hid behind each of his notes, each of his chords!

Berlioz Trip AR is an augmented reality video game for smartphones and tablets inspired by the composer's Memoirs. The user finds himself sharing the sonic and visual hallucinations that the artist was prey to when he wrote the last movement of his Symphonie fantastique. It is then the opportunity to understand what underlies the creation of a musical work, while projecting oneself in the clothes of the composer. Because yes, in the end, it is the player who will complete the score!
The work thus offers a new acoustic and sensory experience to everyone. The sound spatialization technology developed for the occasion makes it possible to physically immerse oneself in the Symphonie fantastique - which, to date, has only been possible by placing dozens of speakers in a space reserved for the occasion, or by sitting among the musicians of an orchestra. In other words, the player evolves in BERLIOZ TRIP AR above all thanks to his ears. But technological innovation, as rich as it is, cannot be deployed in its true measure alone. This is why it is part of a precise narrative setting: the story of Hector Berlioz. The construction of the game in separate and spatialized tracks gives the user the time to deconstruct the 5th movement of the Symphonie fantastique, to relate each sound to the associated idea, and thus to be the actor of a story told in music.
By invoking the spirit of video games, interactivity and immersion, BERLIOZ TRIP AR is in line with the dynamic of cultural institutions to diversify and modernize awareness of classical music among high school students. The choice to develop the project in augmented reality on a tablet was then imposed in a logic to facilitate the meeting with these audiences. The malleability of the medium and the scenography allows the work to be presented in schools as well as in theaters or concert halls.
Note that this experience is part of a multi-sensory exhibition produced by our team and which offers a total immersion in the act of Berlozian creation. Audio and video projections, interactive musical games and participative workshops punctuate the journey!
