Composed of a metallic bowl, a light source and an aquatic ecosystem, Echo is an interactive bio-sculpture. By touching the metallic bowl, the light that circles the plant can reach it, allowing for it to photosynthesize, and hence survive. A poetic way of reminding people of their impact, and to gather different individuals around the same object, working towards the same goal.

Find out more
Echo results from a desire to host vegetation in the urban landscape and invites the visitor to actively contribute to its purpose.
Composed of a metallic bowl, a light source and an aquatic system, Echo is touch-sensitive. The tactile interactions from the audience on the sculpture generate light patterns that provide energy for the proper development of the plants.
Everything here is connected and serves a purpose: the light, the water, the plants, the structure and the space.
Furthermore, this fragile, man-made ecosystem is dependent on the audience's touch-sensitivity. In the scenario where no interaction takes place, the circle of light will never reach the aquatic plants, preventing them from photosynthesising.
The artist actively places the audience’s activity and sense of responsibility at the center of this installation. The audience retains the choice to remain passive and merely observe, or to interact and allow the ecosystem to survive.
The magnitude of the piece is thus solidified by its performative approach. Echo actively reminds its spectators of their impact on the final outcome. A simple yet efficient way of empowering the visitors.
