Hadar

by Arnaud Laffond and Jean Emmanuel Rosnet
2017

Shining in more than one hundred billion galaxies in the Universe, the number of stars is beyond comprehension. On a clear night, the stars that can be seen with a telescope in the depths of space are so old and so far away that their light has taken millions, if not billions of years to reach us.
For thousands of years, the stars have guided the traveler, the sailor and the pilgrim, like a consciousness sailing in unknown darkness.

This installation adapts this idea of "visionary". First through the video itself which is the result of a search for a new aesthetic, combining colors and shapes with a focus on the digital. It is the graphic reinvention of the formation of a star which, over millions of years, becomes a vast ball that emits light from the radiation of billions of nuclear reactions unfolding in its core. The video has a resolution greater than 16k, requiring more advanced technology that modern video players like Youtube and Vimeo would not be able to support or reproduce effectively.

The installation parallels the idea of the time it takes for starlight to reach us and changing technologies, for example, light from a polar star takes 430 years to reach earth. Looking at the stars we see our past whereas looking at the stars gives the impression of looking to the future.
Hadar's replica will be a 30cm diameter statue made by a 3D printer. 3D printing technology makes it possible to add a material in addition to the projection.
As well as another plan that comes to life thanks to cartography.

The sensation of lightness and balance, despite the size of the star, will pique the curiosity of the spectator who will not be able to approach.
The binoculars will allow viewers to participate, giving a more visual sensation, as if they are embarking on their own exploration and appropriation of the installation.
The calm movements and forms, all accompanied by progressive music, will hypnotize the viewer and transport them to another galaxy.
