Eugène Sue wrote his masterpiece, The Mysteries of Paris in 1842 and 1843. It was commissioned by the newspaper "Le Journal des Débats" which wanted a serial story to retain its readers. This serial was a huge success story and has be published and republished during 150 years, and translated all over the world. From 1912, it has been adapted several times for film, then television, until 1980. Today, the title is still well known but the novel is less read. However, the story still has the same impact and its surprises you with its narrative efficiency (Eugène Sue is the cliffhanger's inventor), its occasional humour, its evovative power and baroque fantasy. The book is also fascinating for its documentary aspects about Paris, a few years before the Haussmann destructions, and the times in which the story unfolds. It is said of the Mysteries of Paris that it was the breeding ground for the 1848 revolution.

When we discover the book in an old edition illustrated with many magnificent and elegant engravings, we imagined this adaptation in animated cartoon (2D cut out). We add a funny cartoon tone, focus the adaptation on some particularly thrilling, surprising or funny scenes of the book. Then we were lucky to find the two Studios, Amopix and Miyu, who animated with talent the whole story. Some good actors and a great sound-designer completed this work.
