On ne peut empêcher les oiseaux...

by u2p050 and Amalia Jaulin
2022

The u2p050 studio offers an exploration of the salt marshes of Hyères through an original exhibition conceived as a documentary survey and produced for the Mondes Nouveaux programme.

For several months, u2p050 made visual and sound recordings of the activities that take place on the site, be they human, animal, plant, mineral or technological. The studio's research is presented in the form of a multimedia and plastic installation created in collaboration with the scenographer Amalia Jaulin.

Offering the public an experience that allows them to see and perceive the multiplicity of functions and visions that intersect and meet at the Vieux Salins d’Hyères, the exhibition will be presented in Arles, at the famous Eglise des Trinitaires during the Octobre Numérique festival.

Pierregarin terns, shelducks, turdish warblers, penduline remiz,, bombyx ophrys, witch’s claws... The astonishing litany of species that populate the Vieux Salins d’Hyères attests to the unique richness of this remarkable and protected site.

Today, this nature reserve coexists with various human activities that disrupt the preservation missions of the place. In an area of only three or four square kilometres, there is an international airport with 500,000 annual passengers, one of the busiest amusement parks in the region, a beach popular with kitesurfers, and rows of holiday homes, campsites and hotels...

On ne peut empêcher les oiseaux... bring the visitor to tap into the philosophical concept of the multi-perspectivism, at a time when the ecological crisis is raging and the loss of sensitivity towards living and non-living things is becoming more and more problematic.
