Zone bleue (the Blue Zone)

by Aram Kebabdjian and Stéfane Perraud
2021

Stéfane Perraud is an artist, Aram Kebabdjian is an author. Together they develop works where art, science and fiction intermingle. In Blue Zone, they imagine the future states of a landscape marked by the atom. A futuristic and dizzying installation, this replica of a nuclear waste disposal package - one of those planned to descend through the layers of the earth - serves as the stage for this experience. Four virtual reality headsets connected to the package offer a crossing of this ecstatic forest through as many characters and eras.

From a replica of a disposal parcel - one of those projected to descend through the layers of the earth, four virtual reality headsets tell the coming story of a landscape set above a radioactive waste landfill site: The blue zone.

Each of the helmets offers 8 minutes of crossing an ecstatic forest. This one, made entirely in 3D like a romantic masterpiece, is revealed in 360 °, in the light of the sunset, in the middle of the night, in the heart of autumn or in a beautiful spring. It is a forest of fiction (s) that the visitor traverses over time. 2033, 2072, 3120, 10410, four visions, four trajectories, four peregrinations ... Films can be viewed in no particular order.

A striking way to confront this uncertain future, through the eyes of four protagonists who share their vision of the world. In 2033, an opponent dreams of triumphing; in 2072 an engineer dreaded the descent of the first package underground; in 3120, a naturalist discovered an entirely blue forest, of which she was unaware of the specificities; in 10 410, a horde wanders in the blue zone to prevent anyone from digging the ground ...

Futuristic and vertiginous installation, Zone Bleue plays on our curiosity, our apprehensions and our desire to know what we will become, for us put our feet back on the ground.
