Inaugurations de Points d'ouïe

by Gilles Malatray
2015

On World Listening Day, Point d'Ouïe was inaugurated as part of the Ex-voO Festival in Drée. The official inauguration of the Point d'Ouïe took place in the presence of the mayor, local councillors, residents, and visitors, after a listening walk to raise awareness of the sound environment. The inaugurated Points d'Ouïe are then geolocated on an interactive map. This initiative is still underway at various sites.

Would you like to discover your city, your village, your neighborhood in a new light, right between your ears? Enjoy an acoustic experience that's as unusual as it is ecological? Identify, record, and promote an unheard-of listening point in your area, following a collective sound walk and official inauguration?

Desartsonnants will work with you to organize a true festival of listening, inviting residents, elected representatives, visitors, families, and anyone interested in sound to collaboratively build a shared sound trail/landscape.

First, we take a stroll, identify, and choose one or more locations. Then, we guide the public and their elected representatives to listen to simple, surprising, offbeat, and poetic sounds, in situ, right next to their eardrums... Together, we'll explore different listening postures and tools to immerse ourselves in the music of the place.

Finally, at the end of a PAS (Sensitive Audio Path), we officially inaugurate a Point d'ouïe, with speeches, an acoustic ribbon, minutes of listening, signage, mapping, and an online sound postcard.

It's an original way to (re)attune our ears to the places where we live, to question them through our listening, and to reflect on how we connect with our city, our village, our neighborhood, and our neighbors.

Because the landscape is (also) sound, sometimes fragile, and shared with other listeners, helping us all stay connected to the world. Because listening, above all, creates relationships woven by many pairs of ears open and attuned to the World.
