Jean-Emmanuel Rosnet

Active since : 2010
A person

At the crossroads of several artistic fields, Jean-Emmanuel Rosnet's practice revolves around musical composition and sound creation in all its forms: radio objects, field recording, installations. His interest in the digital arts has also led him to explore the possibilities offered by technologies such as the sonification of neural data, sound fiction enhanced by tracking technologies etc.

Whether in his musical experiments or in his work where the storytelling predominates, Jean-Emmanuel draws on the techniques of ‘sound collage’ and the precepts of improvised music to give shape to landscapes with multiple layers. His artistic research focuses on the oral tradition and the collection of sound traces specific to a territory. By seeking to build up sensitive archives of our world, Jean-Emmanuel Rosnet, in interaction with the societal issues of our time, seeks to highlight the fragility of our world and the changes imposed on our society by the Anthropocene.

Keen to share his practice and raise awareness of the art of listening, he occasionally runs workshops and is currently working on setting up a research centre dedicated to sound creation in rural areas. His work has been presented at a number of festivals and cultural institutions, including La Maison de la Musique / Théâtre Hexagone Scène Nationale I Meylan, Stereolux | Nantes, Festival Interstice / Comédie de Caen - CDN de Normandie, Pléiades, Festival des arts numériques de Saint-Étienne, Biennale des Imaginaires Numériques, CHRONIQUES / Grenier à Sel I Avignon, Transat, résidences d'artistes en été / Ateliers Medicis, GMEM - Centre national de création musicale de Marseille, Athens Digital Arts Festival etc.

In 2025, as part of his collaboration with Dutch artist Robin Koek, he was selected to be a resident at the iii Instrument Inventors platform, a support structure for new interdisciplinary practices in The Hague.
