It's a systematic exploration of the possibilities of displacement: displacement of the gaze, displacement of artistic protocols, displacement of perceptions of the most immediate everyday life, to bring art to interstitial zones in which another world exists and is constructed, in which another reality can emerge.
Our artistic projects originate in contemporary theatrical texts, but also in original creations inspired by non-theatrical works aimed at the general public, with a playful approach to the stage.
The company seeks to put forward a non-anthropocentric vision of the world around us, with the aim of breaking down categories and not stereotyping stories.
At the heart of Ersatz is our relationship with nature and the environment.
We create visual and sound installations that are inhabited by the actors and the text. We work with all the elements on stage to create a multi-faceted script. Our approach is to combine new technological tools with home-made products, systems developed with a certain love of craftsmanship and DIY, and all that this implies in terms of imperfections and sensitivity.
We create visual and sound installations that are inhabited by the actors and the text. We work with all the elements of the stage to create a plural form of writing. Our approach is to combine new technological tools with home-made products, systems developed with a certain love of craftsmanship and DIY, and all that this implies in terms of imperfections and sensitivity.
So we're building a theatrical craft, in other words, an emotional poetry of the act of constructing fiction. With a non-hierarchical approach to the creative departments, all the craftspeople take part in every sphere of the show's production. We have decided to create a sensitive material that calls for transposition. We want to create an evocative performative universe that is perfectly legible for all audiences.
Ersatz is made up of a core group of four people, with Camille Panza (director and dramaturg), Léonard Cornevin (lighting designer, digital artist and actor), Noam Rzewski (sound designer) and Pierre Mercier (illustrator, graphic designer and set designer) as artistic directors.
