A person

A specialist in the semiotics of culture and fashion, Luca Marchetti is an exhibition curator, event director, author and consultant.

He works with cultural institutions and international brands on the representation of identity, the definition of intercultural issues and the analysis of imaginaries. In his academic activity, in consulting, as an event curator and author of publications, he is interested in the role played by fashion in the digital universe as a resource for redefining identities and relationships.

Luca Marchetti started working on the intersections between fashion and digital by founding mosign, the fashion and design pole of the Franco-Italian association Anomos. In this context, in 2003 he invited the Cypriot designer Hussein Chalayan at the Center Pompidou in Paris for a exploration of fashion through new media as identity supports.

His interest in technologies and design as relational accelerators led him to co-edit with E. Quinz the book Le Design d'Interaction (Leonardo/Olats, 2013), then to join the faculty team of the Master DTFC Design Technology for Fashion Communication from the University of Bologna. Between 2017 and 2019 he designed the bachelor's degree program "Theory, culture and curating of fashion" at the UQÀM University in Montreal (Canada). Here he worked with the intelligent clothing designer, artist and researcher Ying Gao, whom he also invited to appear in several publications and events, such as the hyper-textual publication Fashion Responsive (2020) and the homonymous symposium devoted to the integration of technologies into the creative and communicative processes of fashion. Both were carried out at HEAD – Haute École d'Art et Design in Geneva, where he was a researcher/professor in fashion theory until 2017.

Today he addresses these issues, and "metaversual identity" in particular, within a visual culture seminar for the "Fashion and Creative Industries" master's degree at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University - Paris 3, in partnership with the Duperré school and the LVMH luxury group.
In addition to teaching and cultural outreach activities, he curates events and exhibitions such as Foulards (ENSBA - Lyon, Biennale de Saint-Etienne, 2013), Dutch Paradox (with E. Quinz, Galeries Lafayette , Paris, 2012), Basic Instincts (with E. Quinz, Berlin 2011, Guangzhou 2012) and Dysfashional (with E. Quinz, several editions btw. 2007-2011).
Since 2001, he advises international brands on their strategic and identity development and in 2020 he co-founded the innovation and socio-cultural foresight consulting studio The Prospectivists, in Paris (www.theprospectivists.com).
