A person

Lukas Truniger is a visual and sound artist, working mainly with generative media. He creates singular experiences challenging the modalities of perception, pinpointing unseen connections of artificial, natural and social systems to further blur their supposed division. He takes advantage of the mimetic nature of technology to develop speculative representations of transient aspects of our reality. These explorations can take the form of multimedia installations, artistic infrastructures, and performances.

Born in Zürich, he lives and works in Paris. He obtained a music degree from the Robert Schumann conservatory, Institute of Music and Media (IMM) in Düsseldorf and a post gradual diploma in fine arts from Le Fresnoy – studio national des arts contemporains in Tourcoing.

His work has been shown internationally in institutions such as such as the West Kowloon Cultural District (Hong Kong), Ludwig Museum (Budapest), Pearl Art Museum (Shanghai), Fondation Vasarely (Aix-en-Provence), Harvestworks (New York City), Arsenal (Montreal) and La Villette (Paris) as well as at various festivals:
Criatech (Aveiro), MMMAD Festival (Madrid), Athens Digital Arts Festival, Blooming Festival (Pergola), Light Art Grindelwald, Ars Electronica (Linz), City Sonic (Louvain-la-Neuve), Mapping Festival (Geneva), Mirage Festival (Lyon), Burning Man (Nevada), Retune Festival (Berlin), Lethargy Festival (Zürich), Dark Circuits Festival (New York City), Variation Media Art Fair (Paris), Die Digitale (Düsseldorf), Sonica (Glasgow), International Digital Arts Biennial (BIAN) (Montreal), International Symposium for Electronic Arts (ISEA) (Hong Kong), Festival 100% (Paris), Marrakech Biennale and E-Fest (Tunis).

He was a finalist for the Prix Cube 2016 (Paris) and is represented by Bipolar, a production and distribution agency for digital art located in Montpellier.

2019 - collaboration avec Itamar Bergfreund & Bruce Yoder

The installation is an attempt to synthetically reproduce clouds outside of their expected context. Though this endeavour appears to be doomed to failure, it raises various questions on our desire to imitate and eventually control nature.

Déjà Entendu | An Opera Automaton
2015

An ever ongoing opera of Faust is generated in fragmented movements of light and sound, based on a database of historical texts and melodies staging the myth, using the same kind of machine learning software which is omnipresent in our daily life.
