April 1930: Eugénie Savoye is behind the wheel of her car, driving from Paris to her newly built country house in the suburb of Poissy. As she zips along, she muses on the two years that have passed since she met the self-confident Swiss architect, Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, hired to design the home. This virtual reality experience is structured around Madame Savoye’s memories and the letters she exchanged with her architect, better known as Le Corbusier, one of the greatest theoreticians of modern architecture. We observe the creation of Villa Savoye first-hand, one of Le Corbusier’s most famous and influential “machines for living.” ARCHI VR is a series of interactive documentary experiences in virtual reality, delivering the visions of the greatest modern and contemporary architects. In addition to examining the constraints each architect faced, it highlights his or her aesthetic choices in terms of harmony with the geographical setting, technological innovations, or theories put into practice.
