Birdlab

produced by Pierre Cattan and Benjamin Lelong
2015

Birdlab aims to study the behavior of birds on feeders during winter. For 5 minutes, each user is invited to reproduce on his smartphone the arrival and departure of birds on two real bird feeders. Video tutorials, descriptive sheets and training quizzes are available in the application in order to learn how to recognize the 24 most common bird species.

The app takes the form of a serious game in which the player must indicate the movements of the birds he observes on a feeder in front of him. The game is available from November to March which corresponds to winter season. The objective is to collect data for Vigie-Nature and AgroParisTech researchers in order to identify the birds that come to feed at the feeders, study their behavior, and count the species present.
