Oxipital

by Clément Gamgie RIGNAULT, broadcast by Smoothseventies
2024

Oxipital is an audiovisual performance created by Gamgie. He plays and interprets live visuals inspired by the stars and the cosmos, taking us on a journey into our imagination. It’s a performance that invites us to reflect on our relationship with the sacredness of nature and our place in the universe.

This is a collaborative project. The artist wishes to join forces with local musicians to create an artistic synergy blending traditional and digital art.

Note of Intent

I'm fascinated by the beauty of the living world around us. The graphic art hidden in plants, minerals, and natural elements in general is a powerful artistic experience. Observing nature's art attentively is an activity that brings me peace. It's this peace of mind that I'd like to convey. I'd like everyone to observe the living things around them with the greatest attention, as if they were searching for something specific: an explanation, a message.

The cosmos is the receptacle of the divine in the vast majority of human civilizations. It is the seat of the gods, a place of omens, a place of symbols, with constellations representing deities. It speaks to us of our connection with a greater whole, and we have always wanted to understand and interpret it. It represents the infinite, the unfathomable. It's mystical. To look at it is to imagine our place in the universe, our role. Observing the cosmos brings us back to questioning the fundamental issues that drive our human lives: who are we? Where do we come from? What are we doing here on Earth?

Technical requirements

Oxipital is the name of the instrument that generates moving images. It's a software program coded by Gamgie. It is controlled both by the performer and by external data (sound, dance, etc.). The visual is a particulate system that refers to the workings of reality: sand, wind, atoms, stars. Reality is made up of particles. Their movement is governed by physical formulas and forces. These laws define the movements of all the objects around us, from celestial bodies to rocks. Due to the randomness induced by physics and the performer's live performance, each moment is unique.

The use of physical laws links the performance to the magnificence of nature. It's a ballet orchestrated by the laws that govern it. This natural movement, so familiar to us, is a profound gateway to our humanity.

Organization

The idea is to create a collaboration between Gamgie, who plays his visuals, and a local musical artist who focuses on traditional and/or sacred music. A period of meeting and creation is required to build this artistic collaboration (minimum 2 days).
