Sonoscriptum

by Antonin Fourneau
2019

Sonoscriptum is a surface sensitive to touch and sound. You can leave a luminous traces by moving your hand or body close in front of the surface. To add color, you have to modulate your voice or play an instrument. Light goes from red in low tone and blue in the high tone by passing by different colors between these tones. And to erase just say shuuuutttt !

The Sonoscriptum installation is made up of independent, sound-sensitive LED panels. Thus this creation invites people to draw on the luminous surface using the hand as a brush and the voice or an instrument as a palette of colors. By modulating the sounds you can change the nuances and even add them up in successive layers. A simple “shut” is then enough to extinguish the pixels where you pass your hand.

Sonoscriptum is a continuation of the artist's research project to develop new materials in public space. This work responds to the same concerns of the artist as in his previous creation Waterlight Graffiti by questioning our relationship to screens and particularly in public spaces where it is mainly information or advertising displays that are present. Here the artist offers the passer-by to appropriate the surface in order to express himself but asking him in exchange to sing. This strange device looks like almost the result of a bad reflection of an interface designer who instead of using a simple tactile color selector to prefer to use a sound sensor as a palette. But this is precisely the deliberate choice of the artist . The work is intended to be disturbing and to provoke deviant behavior in the public. To be able to draw, people must accept to sing or whistle while moving and thus become themselves actors in front of the eyes of the other spectators. This work leads visitors to rediscover the soul of your childhood and to uninhibit the barriers that we tend to put on ourselves. Thus they will perhaps discover new synaesthetic perceptions.
