Vector Field

by Eric Raynaud
2017

Vector Field is an audiovisual performance delving into the realm of real-time manipulation through a deliberately minimalist vector stream, brought to life through the influence of sound. The performance is based on transformation ofvisual artifacts by sound material, creating transient 3D geometries explored in real time by the displacement of a virtual camera, in symbiosis with sound, which acts as a energy guide creating rupture and evoking a profound emotional experience.

Many scientists propose a fascinating idea: that what we commonly refer to as "Time" is in reality a human perception intricately linked to the quantum state changes of matter. According to this viewpoint, there is no definitive "before" or "after"; there exists only a fluid moment that transforms before our eyes, bound by the unchanging laws of our universe. Drawing inspiration from this profound principle, the artwork known as "Vector Field" takes center stage.

Within "Vector Field," Fraction masterfully captures a three-dimensional homophonic and abstract structure. With deliberate nods to the science of topology and the customary representation of sound waves in Western culture, the piece encapsulates an aesthetic current meticulously generated by computational means. This current forms an elusive continuum, akin to a mirror reflecting the artist's inner perception.

The heart of this performance lies in the orchestrated interplay between visual artifacts and sonic elements. Through the manipulation of sound material, dynamic 3D geometries are born, transient in nature. These geometries are explored in real time through the lens of a virtual camera, moving in harmony with the guiding force of sound. This auditory energy serves as both a guide and a catalyst, creating captivating ruptures and contrasts that echo the very transformations they accompany, all while evoking a rich tapestry of emotions.

The essence of this artistic endeavor is the relentless pursuit of equilibrium between visual and auditory media. The culmination of this pursuit results in a performance that exudes a radical and remarkably dynamic presence. Amidst this immersive setting, dense soundscapes intertwine with minimalistic geometries, seamlessly whisking the audience away on an unforgettable journey through the realms of immersive metamorphosis.
