Ellipses is an aquatic evocation of infinity linked to the observation of light through the prism of water which opens up a questioning of reflection and reality. Around this video device revolves a questioning of time and cyclical repetition.
From the expansion of the Universe to intra-atomic movements, in the infinitely large or the infinitely small, from near to far, Nicolas Tourte explores systems of reciprocity using the liquid element as a reading grid. He designed this structure with the idea of an invitation to relativize our vision of the world, without trying to play down the straitjacket that emerges there.
Nicolas Tourte's research is distinguished by a very clear interest in the mineral universe and the life sciences sediment his plastic bases. Through this doubly elliptical structure augmented by a video projection, he is interested in the refraction of light in water, in the fact that the density of the liquid in question differs from that of the air and that the light which there penetrates undergoes different phenomena. If at first glance it is fascinating to look at the caustics, these luminous deformations coming from a reflection and that we find in everyday life provided the conditions are met, it is all the more interesting to grasp the causes and theoretical explanations to make of it a metaphorical reading of what can be the enclosures in which our world evolves and seems to acclimatize.
