Jonathan Tamene and Frédéric Lecompte co-founded BackLight in 2008 as a CG animation studio, focusing on craft and high-level rendering while diversifying into new territories like Augmented Reality (AR) back in 2010 or VR in 2014. Amongst pioneers in modern VR, BackLight is one of the most prolific studios with more than 70 projects developed and develops today its own licenses for LBVR (Location Based Entertainment including Virtual Reality), from dynamic rides to high end hyperreality contents like ECLIPSE, TOYLAND, Icecube Protocol or more recently Le Bal de Paris de Blanca Li.
In 2020, BackLight launched OZ Experience, a catalog of Hype Reality experiences and opened a first park in Las Vegas.
VR is going mainstream and entertainment is spearheading it. Our catalog reflects all of BackLight’s know-how in terms of immersion. Our artistic ambitions, our will to push the boundaries of immersion but also our vision of what good VR entertainment is : unencumbered, sensory, social “story-living” experience.
VR is not just a game but an experience, an experience that makes a mark. Nothing is more powerful than Hyper Reality to achieve this. This is our motivation, our goal to engage your audience. An audience who looks at you after a game session and says “So this is VR”.
Our positioning is simple: People must experience unprecedented VR. To retain your audience, they must taste the full potential of Virtual Reality. That is achieved through a high level of immersion, high end production in terms of rendering, sound design and story-telling, clever interactivity, multiplayer experiences and innovative installations.
