Seconde Nature / Zinc

Active since : 1998
Association

An association recognised for its pioneering commitment to the field of contemporary creation in the digital age, Seconde Nature's mission is to accompany society’s cultural shifts through the unique viewpoint of artists.

Zinc is a centre for digital art and culture founded in 1998 at the Friche Belle de Mai in Marseille. Its multi-disciplinary, field-trained team is supported by numerous partners (artists, cultural producers, associations, teachers...) and organises approximately 100 activities and projects every year, for every type of audience.

Seconde Nature and Zinc are digital imagination incubators that have been working for several years towards fostering and promoting contemporary creation, advancing the understanding of the world in the digital age, and helping audiences appropriate technologies to develop their creativity and emancipation.

The two associations organise the Biennale of Digital Imagination, whose third edition will be held from November 10, 2022 to January 23, 2023. After having explored the theme of Levitation during the first edition, then the concept of Eternity, the topic that will be explored is Night in 2022.

Creation

Seconde Nature 's ambition is to promote and foster digital creation as well as support the digital art scene, hand in hand with cultural institutions and researchers.

Public

Seconde Nature offers its various audiences a variety of activities and resources: exhibition tours, workshops, training, artistic and cultural education projects and educational tools, in order to make digital arts and culture accessible to all.

Creativity

Seconde Nature is keen to put different kinds of audiences – amateurs and professionals alike – in touch with the full range of creative possibilities. The association is committed to professional structuring and international cooperation around digital arts.

Production

Zinc supports artists and disseminates their work, encouraging art forms that use digital technologies. Zinc also organises events at the Friche Belle de Mai, in Marseille, as well as in the Sud region: festivals, shows, screenings, public meetings.

Digital outreach

Zinc is also a MEDIALAB and a FABLAB open to anyone wishing to practice, be introduced to or learn more about technology: from creative software to electronics, from the internet to 3D printing and virtual reality. These creative workshops explore the uses of digital technologies, personal digital construction, and collective innovations for collaboration

Training

Zinc offers training, engineering, expertise, and conferences for professionals in the fields of culture and social work, so that everyone can understand the world in digital mode.
