Gilles Malatray is a French sound artist and landscaper, a listening walker and educator. He has been working for many years around soundscapes. In a posture combining aesthetic, cultural, artistic, educational, and ecological approaches, the writing and composition of soundscapes are strongly linked to the invested territories, whether they are urban, peri-urban, rural, natural spaces, architectural sites... These issues occupy a central position in the practice of desartsonnante through curation, research, transmedia writing, training, and in situ artistic interventions. Environmental listening remains, regardless of the form of intervention used, at the center of all sound investigation and creation.
Soundscapes, in their multiple readings and writings, are thus approached from aesthetic/artistic, ecological/ecosophical, societal, and educational angles. Contextual and relational actions are at the heart of the project. The transdisciplinary, even undisciplined approach, combining sound creation and territorial planning, is preferred.
Among his specific actions, desartsonnants works on setting up sound walks, radio or stage creations, in situ installations, concerts, performances... drawing sound material from the local context.
He participates in numerous festivals, conducts workshops, working groups, conferences, listening workshops, and other transdisciplinary research, in partnership with artistic and scientific structures, in different countries (Europe, Africa, Canada...).
