The French digital creation settles year after year on the podiums of festivals in France and abroad. The year 2022 was rich in awards for French productions and artists, discover the winners!

Pégases of video games

Every year, the Academy of Video Game Arts and Techniques promotes the best productions and celebrates key figures in the industry with the Pégases awards.This year, the big winners of this edition with a total of five awards each are Deathloop developed by the French studio Arkane Lyon and the narrative adventure game Road 96 by the Montpellier studio DigixArt. The Academy also awarded Northgard by Shiro Games, for best mobile video game.

The independent French video game industry was also recognized at the Games Awards : Stray, by Montpellier-based studio BlueTwelve received the award for best 2022 independent video game.

At the heart of festivals

Once again, French virtual reality works have shone at numerous festivals in France and abroad.

 

Among the biggest hits was the French production company Atlas V, with Glimpse and Evolver winning awards at Cannes and the Annecy animation festival. Atlas V also won the award of the best interactive experience at the 2022 South by Southwest for On the Morning you Wake, also recognized at Stereopsia Europe. Last but not least, Madrid Noir won the Emmy interactive media Award. 

 

Other major success, the immersive creation Goliath: Playing with reality by Floréal Films also received a special mention from the jury at the Annecy animation festival, along with the award of the best XR documentary at the Numix Lab.

 

At Stereopsia Europe, the French company Digital Rise received the award of the best social experience for MANDALA: A Brief Moment In Time and the best design was awarded to the company VRoom for the virtual concert OXYMORE by Jean-Michel Jarre. The prestigious Storyscape Award of the Tribeca Film Festival went to Innerspace VR for Kubo Walks the City. 

 

In Angoulême at the sixth edition of Immersity, two French works won the Best Pitch Award, Little Nemo by Femme Fatale Studio and Moi Fauve by Small, both currently in production. As well as the winning work from the residency at the Martell Foundation, Entrez dans la danse by Tchikiboum, the production company that was also awarded for Duchampiana VR at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Immersive experiences

In situ

This year, awards recognized the quality of location based immersive experiences. Eternelle Notre-Dame, by studio Emissive won the award of the best in situ educational immersive experience at the Numix Lab, along with the best location based experience award at the VR Awards. The technological feat enables the audience to be immersed at the heart of the history of Notre-Dame cathedral and its treasures, since its construction during the Middle Ages until its current rebuilding. 
 

The innovative comics-concert Shangri-La produced by Unimation and the Or Normes collective received the prize of the best cultural experience at the Numix Lab.

Web creation is constantly reinventing itself in order to offer more innovative experiences to its audience. Suppliques Stories, by La Générale de Production, awarded with the Grand Prize of the Sunny Side of the Doc festival, is a web app that explores thousands of letters sent by Jewish families, victims of the persecution by the Vichy government.

 

French web creation was also recognized during Stereopsia Europe : Seven Grams, an experience by journalist Karim Ben Khelifa which invites us to discover the links between smartphones and the dramatic conditions in which the rare minerals are extracted for their manufacturing, won the best AR experience award. Also in the realm of AR, Wild Cities by a_BAHN received the award of the best experience in the "augmented games" category during the Numix Lab. This interactive app invites us to grow our own forest and to learn to gain a better knowledge of plants and animals. 
Once again at the Numix Lab, the TikTok vertical series Viens on Danse, produced by Melocoton Films for Arte received the award of the best social media experience. Between humor and emotions, this series walks us through urban dances.

At last, the jury of the 28th edition of the Procirep French Producer Prize awarded Darjeeling in the animation category.
